Watch the miracle of metamorphosis up close!

This educational kit gives you an unforgettable opportunity to watch caterpillars change into chrysalides and then emerge as beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies.

Raise and feed your very own butterflies and then release them into the wild! The entire transformation from caterpillar to adult butterfly takes about three to five weeks.

This kit contains a reusable Butterfly Garden Habitat, a voucher for caterpillars to be sent to you, an instruction and information guide and feeding pippette. When you are ready to give the caterpillars a home, use the voucher on the website provided and 3-5 caterpillars will be sent to you in a clear plastic cup with all of the nutritious food they need.

You will need to pay postage for the caterpillars at an extra charge of 3.99, but the creatures themselves are included in the cost of this kit.

Place the cup of caterpillars in a safe place away from direct sunlight. They will remain in the cup and will eat, spin silk and grow to TEN times their original size! After seven to ten days they will hang upside down and harden into chrysalides (chrysalides are also known as pupae).

Once the chrysalides have hardened, gently move them to the pop-up butterfly habitat included in the kit. It will take about seven to ten more days for them to complete the transformation to adult butterflies.

The Butterfly Garden Habitat is a reusable, cylindrical mesh container perfect for up close butterfly viewing! When not in use it folds flat for easy storage. Then when you wish to raise more butterflies, just order a refill cup of caterpillars on the Insect Lore website.

The Live Butterfly Garden set includes:
a pop-up, reusable 30cm tall mesh habitat ideal for butterfly viewing, a feeding pipette, complete instructions, a voucher for 3-5 live caterpillars (caterpillars available March to mid-September during the butterfly season).

A super activity for ages 4 years to adult.
